I do not want to start insulin. My friend who started insulin now has to stay on it forever.

Question:
I am Asian, 30 years old, male. Do I need to worry about diabetes at my age? Thank you.
Answer:

Asians do develop type 2 diabetes at a younger age than Caucasians.  However, unless you have a strong family history of diabetes or there are high risk factors like obesity or other special situations, 30 years old is still a young age for type 2 diabetes.  If you are concerned, you should discuss with your health care provider about screening for the condition.
