Question:
my glucose reading has been climbing steadily for the last few years , the last reading was 118 which was last week. It was in the high 90 about three years ago. I am 71 years old 5'11" 180 lbs in fairly good health started going to the gym twice a week about four years ago: 30min cardio 30 min weights. What should be done to lower the count.
Answer:
It seems like you are doing the best anyone can do.  Your weight is reasonable and you are quite physically active.  You have done well, but diabetes has continued to progress.  The reality of diabetes is that over time the body's ability to make insulin decreases and hence the glucose levels will likely rise.

The good news is that your active lifestyle has probably slowed down the progression.  In addition, there are many medications that can help control your glucose levels and prevent diabetes related complications.  So, I would look at medications as tools to help you live the type of lifestyle you want and to achieve the health status you desire.
