I do not want to start insulin. My friend who started insulin now has to stay on it forever.
This is true to all patients with type 1 diabetes and partially true to certain people with type 2 diabetes. For patients with type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin and so will need     more

Question:
Hi, I'm from China. I need some help about diabetes mellitus. This summer I found my dad's A1c to be higher than 11%. The doctor said my dad is type 2. My dad also took Antidiabetic drugs and traditional Chinese medicine, but I do not believe in doctors of traditional Chinese medicine. I know that in traditional Chinese medicine there is not diabetes mellitus. I want to ask if traditional Chinese medicine can help to treat diabetes. Also can you tell me about spirulian? Thanks!
Answer:
Diabetes is an old disease.  Over two thousand years ago in China, there were descriptions of a wasting disease related to obesity (characteristic of diabetes).  In Chinese medicine, diabetes is felt as a condition with excessive heat or "Yang" energy. So the treatment approach aims to restore the balance.  Unfortunately, there is currently no cure for diabetes regardless of whether you are talking about Western medicine or Chinese medicine.

If there were a cure, we would not be seeing over 300 million people worldwide and over 90 million people in China living with diabetes. The good news is that diabetes can be controlled.  Whether the medication is Western or Chinese, the most important foundation for treatment  is lifestyle changes.  Exercise, weight loss (if appropriate), and a healthy meal plan are crucial to controlling diabetes and preventing diabetes related complications.  Medication will be needed as the disease progresses over time.

I would encourage your father to take charge of his diabetes and learn as much as he can about managing diabetes.

In terms of spirulian, there is not enough information on the compound for me to comment.
