Question:
Hi Im wondering how to figure out how many grams of each food group my dad should eat per day? For example, how many grams of carbs per day, how many grams of proteins per day? He is 84 yrs old , borderline diabetic. blood sugar level is about 140. He is moderately active. He prefers Chinese diet but will eat Western meats and veggiies and rice. thanks, Helen
Answer:

The amount of carbs, proteins, and other nutrients that your father needs depends on many factors, such as age, height, weight, physical activity, medical condition and food preferences. I would suggest that your father to meet with a Registered Dietitian (RD) who is also a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE), and with knowledge of Chinese food culture. The RD will be able to tailor a meal plan that is best for your father. You can find a local CDE on the American Association of Diabetes Educator website.
