I do not want to start insulin. My friend who started insulin now has to stay on it forever.
This is true to all patients with type 1 diabetes and partially true to certain people with type 2 diabetes. For patients with type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin and so will need     more

Question:
Hello! My son is 6 years old. He was diagnosed with autism, and last week, he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I would like to know if you have any Chinese materials (cause of diabetes, treatment, recipes, things that need to take note of, etc).
Answer:

Thank you for contacting us. You can download different Chinese materials at our website. These materials include topics such as “What is Diabetes?”, “How Do You Know if You Have Diabetes?”, “Chinese-American Food List” and “Chinese-American Menu Sample”.

To find out more about the nutrition information of some commonly consumed Chinese food, you can also check out our Joslin Interactive Wok.

These materials are some tools for you to have a general understanding on diabetes and diabetes management. Medical treatment and meal plan are individualized to each person. It is best for you and your son to meet with an endocrinologist and Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) and discuss the tailored diabetes treatment and management plan.
