It is with mixed emotions that I am writing to let you know that I will be leaving my clinical, research and education staff positions at Joslin Diabetes Center. I will be taking on a new position in California to pursue the next phase of my professional development. This has been a very difficult decision for me. However, I'd like to thank you for letting me be a part of your health care team. I know that I will leave your diabetes care in the hands of a trusted and capable team at Joslin. My last day in the clinic will be August 29th, 2019.
If you do not already have an appointment scheduled for follow-up care with your new provider, please call the Asian Clinic (617) 309-3444 to schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
If you do choose to seek your diabetic care outside the Diabetes Center, Joslin will provide your new healthcare provider with your medical information upon your request and written authorization.

We are excited to be back with the Head Start Program in Quincy for the Parent Cafe! This year our workshop focused on cognitive health, Karen Lau RD/CDE reviewed factors that can affect cognitive health along with lifestyle aspects to help improve cognitive health.
It was great to see so many familiar faces at the Parent Cafe, and the participants all asked great questions!

Providers and clinicians from the Dorchester area have gathered for a night to discuss the latest clinical research and advocacy efforts around diabetes prevention in the Vietnamese American community.
To continue our efforts of Screen at 23, we will be working with the South Shore YMCA to continue our efforts to spread awareness about the higher risk of Asian Americans developing diabetes at a lower BMI (Body Mass Index).

Dr. George King was invited by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health as a speaker for the "Diabetes Town Hall" in honor of National Diabetes Awareness month in November.
We are excited to host anotther training session for students in the medical field who will be taking part in our community outreach programs. Students will learn diabetes management basics and how to use on site A1C screen kits. This a great learning opportunity for future health professionals to meet and learn the needs and concerns of Asian communities.
AADI is passionate about providing these opportunities to students.

We were invited to do another workshop at the Quincy Head Start, Parent Cafe!
For this workshop, we focused on topics such as 'Know Your BMI', 'Weight-related health issues in Asian Americans' and '8 steps in preventing weight gain and diabetes'. This event was led by Karen Lau, Joslin's RD/CDE. Many of the parents asked many questions about how to prepare food that is healthy, but also with ingredients their children will eat as well.
